Sadie Williams’ SS19 collection was a whistle-stop, tour quite literally, of the world of bikers. The graphics and prints reminded me of the flags on race tracks and fitted in seamlessly with the clashing patterns and colours.
Williams took inspiration from old school Americana bikers, Japanese Bosozuko gangs, motocross riders and the familiar biker jackets worn by her own parents during authentic-punk London. There was a real feel of feminine mystique mixed with tough girl pieces like baker boy caps and loud prints. Scarf detailing also added a new dimension to the trippy graphics, while the patchwork motifs are richly reworked in woven jacquards, created in Italy with Alice Timmis.
This was a collection that allowed Williams’ much loved shimmering prints to be exaggerated to their full potential.
